Juvenile Glaucoma

Juvenile [Lat. juvenilis: youthful] glaucoma is an IOP increase that occurs in an older child or young adult and is often inherited. During a thorough examination, the ophthalmologist may find discreet evidence of an incomplete maturation of the chamber angle, and as treatment, a laser goniotomy can be performed. The clinical features as well as treatment of juvenile glaucoma are quite similar to adult  Primary Chronic Open-Angle Glaucoma (POAG) and will therefore not be discussed in detail here.

As a closing remark, it should be noted that children can also be afflicted with other forms of glaucoma, for example, secondary glaucoma as a result of accidents or inflammations. These forms of glaucoma are similar to those seen in adults and will be discussed later.
